Our Chapter

Founded in 2002, the Johnson County, Kansas Pheasants & Quail Forever Chapter has grown to over 1,000 members.

We are active in our Kansas City community and work to support outdoor experiences for women and youth, hunter education, target and wing shooting opportunities, and habitat/conservation work throughout the state of Kansas.

We bring our mission to life by hosting an annual fundraising banquet, shotgun shooting clinics, a youth/women’s hunt, hunter education courses, habitat and pollinator projects, along with financial support for local high school shooting teams.

As an organization, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever allow chapters to determine how their locally-raised conservation funds will be spent. Following this model, our chapter has distributed more than $100,000 for education activities, habitat improvement, and conservation.

If you are interested in becoming a member or getting involved, we invite you to stop by one of our meetings or contact one of our chapter leaders, or reach out to us here.

Chapter Accomplishments

Annual Fundraising Banquet

Our annual banquet draws more than 300 supporters, generating $30,000+. This event is our key fundraising effort for the year. Proceeds generated by games, silent and live auctions support the programs detailed below.

Bi-Monthly Meetings

Bi-monthly meetings provide an opportunity for fellowship and reconnecting, as well as the chance to discuss chapter business and programming. All are welcome to join.

Conservation/Habitat

As habitat is very important to our group, we have worked with the following organizations, locally and across the state, providing funding for food plots, new seeding, reseeding, and woody encroachment removal. If yourself, family, or friends have property that you would like help with or have question about please reach out to our chapter.

Projects

  • Johnson County Parks and Recreation on pollinator projects at Heritage Park and Big Bull Creek Scout Area.

  • Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks on projects at Hillsdale, Rutlader and Clinton Wildlife Areas.

  • Power Creek Shooting Park for reseeding shooting areas.

  • Ducks Unlimited where DU has done work on levees, dikes, and around marshes where new seeding of native or CRP grass needs to be reestablished at Talmo Wildlife area in Republic County, Kyle Marsh at Perry Lake and Jamestown Wildlife Area.

  • National PF in conjunction with their Build a Wildlife Area at 3 locations in Sherman and Pottawatomie Counties.. Our chapter was recognized for being a contributor as a “Public Land Creator”. This allows hunting access for members.

Youth and Women’s Shotgun Shoots

We host a couple of all-expenses paid shooting events annually. At these activities, novice shooters are provided with gun safety and professional wing-shooting instruction. There’s little we enjoy more than seeing a first-time shooter confidently and consistently smashing clays.

Sponsorship of High School Shooting Teams

We sponsor a number of local high school shooting teams, providing shells and funding through a partnership gun raffle. Giving back to the community and ensuring that young people have opportunities to enjoy the shooting sports are cornerstones of our chapter. We've sponsored The St. James Thunder High School, Piper High School, Wyandotte County 4H, Ottawa High School, Franklin County 4H, McClouth High School and Decatur County High School Shooting Teams to name a few. Please contact one of our officers if you're interested in support.

Support for the Johnson & Wyandotte County 4-H Air Gun Shooting Teams

Keeping funding local in support of young people and the shooting sports, last year we sponsored the air gun shooting teams of our local counties.

Support for Women in the Outdoors

We proudly support outdoor programs that encourage and foster positive, conservation-minded communities for women to explore our natural heritage. We’ve previously sponsored Wander Woman Kansas and wildHERness. Pheasant Forever is starting up a Women on the Wing Program. We’ll be actively involved to support this group. Hunter Education and Safety Certification Courses

Getting new hunters and shooters involved in the sport is one of our major missions. With that in mind, we’ve found a lack of hunter safety certification courses to be a limiting factor. To provide more of these valuable courses, our chapter will periodically host these events. We’ve also worked with Kansas Departments of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism to certify chapter members as new hunter safety instructors.

Meet and Greet

We collaborate with local businesses to meet, talk about our passions to help area bird hunters and conservationists connect and network. It also gives those attending the chance to talk about the upland bird season, dogs, and maybe walk away with a few new hunting partners.
